Privacy policy

Effective October 19, 2026

In short: the application sends nothing anywhere. This website keeps an anonymous count of visits and downloads, and nothing else. There are no accounts, no cookies, no advertising, and no third-party analytics service.

The application

PictureAttic runs entirely on your own computer.

We never receive, see or store the contents of any archive. We could not read it if we wanted to.

This website

The website has no sign-up forms, no accounts, no comment system and no advertising network. It sets no cookies, and it sends nothing to Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service. The only measurement is the first-party counting described below, which runs on our own server.

One technical note, in the spirit of full disclosure: our pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, so Google's servers see the ordinary request information that any web request reveals, including your IP address. We send Google nothing else.

Visits and downloads

When you open a page on this site, and again if you download a trial, we record one line so we can count how many people visit and how many go on to download. Repeat views within half an hour count once. Each line contains:

Your IP address is not stored. It is used momentarily to look up the country in a database held on our own server, with no request to any outside service, and is then discarded. The hash is produced from the IP address with a one-way function and cannot be reversed back to it.

We do not use this to build a profile, and it is never sold, rented or shared.

Buying a licence

Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. They take your payment details and billing information, and they are responsible for that data under their own privacy policy. We never see your card details.

From a completed order we receive the name and email address you gave at checkout. We use those to generate your licence key and email it to you, and to keep a record of the sale as tax law requires.

If you contact us

If you email support we hold your message and your address for as long as needed to help you, and afterwards as a record of the exchange.

How long we keep things

Visit and download records are deleted after 12 months. That is enforced by the code that writes them, not by anyone remembering: each record carries the date it was made, and anything older than twelve months is removed automatically.

Order records are kept as long as Canadian tax law requires. Support email is kept until it is no longer useful.

Your rights

Write to support@PictureAttic.com at any time to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. We honour deletion requests promptly.

If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the rights given to you by the General Data Protection Regulation, including access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your national supervisory authority. The hashed visitor identifier described above is treated as personal data for these purposes even though we cannot connect it to a person.

Children

PictureAttic is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the effective date above. Material changes will be noted on this page.
